The Workers Party of Massachusetts condemns the latest escalation of the violence directed at Venezuela with the kidnapping of Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores, his wife, on January 2nd by U.S. special forces. The Venezuelan people will not stand for the lies and extreme violence of the USA and have the full right to defend themselves using all means up to and including armed struggle.
Both Donald Trump and María Corina Machado have openly stated that this aggression is driven by U.S. interests in controlling Venezuelan oil and other “strategic resources” like lithium. This is not about democracy or human rights. It is about resource extraction and imperial domination.
We demand the return of Maduro, the democratically elected president of Venezuela and an end to the imperialist military aggression against Venezuela and all sovereign countries around the world.
