2-5-26 release
With another round of publicity around the "Epstein Files", we are seeing Capital make a spectacle of the abuses the ruling class are able to commit. The focus is on exposing individuals, and a belief is produced that this must be the work of a vast conspiracy. But conspiracy is what surfaces when class analysis is rejected. We need to bring it back, front and center.
There's no secret cabal that rules the world. No puppet masters. There are institutions. Corporations. Wealth that insulates. Capital that knows no borders. A legal system that can be exhausted with money. Cops who have no legal responsibility to serve or protect. Who are used to protect private property and violently enforce the social order necessary to continue profit accumulation. Humans who are forced to sell themselves through wage labor to survive.
We see the monstrosities that have been committed, and the lack of consequences, and we feel powerless. We reach for conspiracy, believing that by making all the connections we can gain control. That exposure leads to justice. But exposure without leverage is just spectacle.
Justice won't be realized with the gradual release of more files. There's no secret society we can put behind bars to make the world safe again. There is only class struggle. Struggle against the systems that produce disposable humans, stratified through marginalization, that force us to fragment instead of uniting to seize real power. To find true justice, we have to dismantle the systems that will continue to enable this unchecked predation. But first, we have to understand these systems so they're not able to blind us with endless conspiracies that don't lead to power.
Epstein is not an example of a flaw in the system. He is the inevitable result of it. So let's look at how capitalism creates the conditions that enabled this to happen, and will enable the next Epstein.
-Wealth As Insulation-
Money buys lawyers, silence, physical protection, settlements, and public relations firms who can handle social fallout.
-Precarity As Recruitment Tool-
Poverty, housing instability, foster systems, debt, and lack of social support systems create people who can be coerced financially.
-Criminalization of Survival-
Sex work, homelessness, addiction, racism, and migration status make victims afraid to report and easier to control.
-Institutionalized Patriarchy-
Child marriage laws, domestic abuse, ignored cases of sexual assault, and other ways that gendered violence is normalized.
-Private Arbitration, NDAs, Sealed Settlements-
Harm is routed out of public accountability.
-Elite Collective Risk Management-
Dense social networks that protect their class interests. Silence, access, favors, and containment are shared behaviors.
-Border Enforcement-
Documentation status creates a caste of people subject to extreme exploitation and precarity while having little to no legal recourse.
-Media Spectacle-
Scandal becomes content. Outrage and exposure replace accountability and structural change.
None of these structures require a secret cabal behind the scenes. In fact, even if one existed the task before us would still be the same. Destroy the capacity of capital and the state to maintain the system that makes people disposable while protecting the rich and powerful. We have to harness our collective rage into organized, militant power and fight real systems. ICE, Police, Capitalists, Landlords... all those that benefit from this system. We already have the tools we need- labor unions, revolutionary parties, mutual aid groups, tenant unions, and others are already fighting. We need to focus on building capacity to bring an end to this system.
